The best narative ever! xD
Trained hard, backed out from competition.
‘’Until you spread your wings, you’ll never know how far you can fly.’’ That is how my father motivated me. He knows my chances of getting into the team are slim and yet he still won’t give up. Just as all hopes of me getting into the national team are fading, he’s the one who will always be beside me, lifting me up when I’m down.
The straits times newspaper reads, ‘’ Singapore, in the world cup!’’ Everybody was stunned. Singapore, being the smallest country in the world, has made it into the biggest stage in sports event. The more people were stunned, chances of my dream of becoming a reality were high.
Representing my country in the world cup. That was my dream. That was every footballer’s dream. To achieve that will be difficult, but possible. So, I worked my socks off tirelessly in every training sessions. I put in my maximum effort in every drill that I do. Every single day is a challenge for me. I will train as if there is no tomorrow. I won’t fear people. Fear is never in my vocabulary. Passion and believing is the key to success and I’m convinced, I’ve gave everything I’ve got. The fate all lies in the coaches hand whether I’, in the team or not.
The day has come. The day where the coach will choose his 18-squad players for the upcoming tournament. I was shaking nervously. Stressed, pressurized. I could feel the weight to the world on my shoulders. 17 names had been called and now its down to the final slot. I had my finger crossed. Many questions were in my mind. Who will it be ?
‘’Aidil Iskandar .‘’
The coach had revealed the 18 players, it was a great moment for me. Nothing could describe my joy. Not even a thousand words. It was unbelievable. I was congratulated by many players and I truly feel that it was a deserving reward after all the hardwork I put in. The national team. The 18 player squad. Next objective, the World Cup.
‘’Majulah Singapura !’’ , that is what I hear when we enter the national stadium. Everyone was in high spirit, all pumped up, ready to kick their opponent’s butts.
The fans of red and white occupied the stadium. With pride, the nation roared together like lion while waiting for the game to start.I was in the dressing room, nervous. But hearing the lions roaring was such a confident boast. Never I thought that my dream is becoming a reality in minutes time.
Kick off was about to start. All 22 players were ready to play. As they entered the lion’s den, the stadium was fully surrounded by the lions. As I step in the lion’s den, the field, I knew that there’s no turning back. I will be in the field for 90mins. The 90 minutes of hell.
The first touch of the ball was taken, and every player was chasing for the ball. Me, too, was chasing for the ball. As the first few tackles came in, I knew this will be a war. It’s either do or die. I just did what I did best in every training to make sure we are in possession of the ball.
15 minutes had pass by, and still no goals. The fans was frustrated, even the players. Suddenly, I got the ball and I tried to give it a try. With full force, I strike the ball with my right foot. It hit the woodwork. But just as I was going for a rebound, a defender slide and gave me a two-footed tackle on my shin. I black out.
When I woke up, I found myself lying on the hospital ward.
‘’Where am I? ‘’ I asked the nurse.
‘’ You broke your leg into two parts.’’ The doctor said.
It was horrible. My dream, it’s ruined. I was destroyed. I couldn’t walk. Not even a few steps. To see people playing the beautiful game, having fun, really hurts me a lot. I guess, some dreams doesn’t always become a reality after all. But what pleased me the most is that I did persevere till the end. Although I didn’t achieve my dream, my father really help me in life. I did what he always want me to do. He wants me to try :]
